Brea Souders crea un racconto visivo che ben interpreta il pensiero di Magritte, per il quale l’arte non è un fine in sé, ma un mezzo per evocare l’essenziale mistero dell’esistere. La giovane artista (32) nella sua opera usa un linguaggio che guarda alla storia dell’arte e la reinterpreta con stile personale attraverso un uso brillante e fresco del colore che richiama l’illustrazione.
In un’ atmosfera di sospensione brulicante di silenzi e brusii , crea immagini in cui si fondono l’ ironia e un senso lieve di mistero.
Linee e ombre, curve di corpi femminili, lo stelo di un fiore, frammenti di un collage, dettagli di luce e sfumature cromatiche, pieni e vuoti, partecipano della stessa armonia compositiva.Non conosciamo i volti delle giovani donne, ritratte da Brea. Sono sempre di spalle, il suo obiettivo ne svela la nuca, esaltandone una delicata e vulnerabile femminilità, espressa nella raffinatezza di pose e dettagli, capelli sapientemente raccolti in uno chignon, la curva armoniosa di un’ ombra svestita, i riflessi iridiscenti di una conchiglia, i segni sulla pelle di una scottatura estiva…
Punctum di ogni immagine è un soffio di vento che spira dolcemente pensieri memorie e sentimenti che hanno il ritmo dei versi di Nazim Hikmet ”verrà il tramonto, mia rosa/ e al di là della notte/mi aspetterà/spero/il sapore di un nuovo azzurro.”

Brea Souders creates a visual story that plays well the Magritte’s thought and legacy : art is not an end in itself , but art means evoke the essential mystery of existence. The young artist (32 ) in her work uses a language that looks at the history of art and reinterprets it with personal style through a cool, fresh and brilliant use of color that is so close to the illustration.
In a suspension bustling atmosphere of silence and murmurs , Brea creates images that mix together gentle irony and a sense of mystery.Lines and shadows , curves of a female body , the stem of a flower, a collage of fragments , details of light and shades , full and empty, participate in the same bright composition of harmony .
We do not see the faces of the young women portrayed by Brea . They are always behind, the picture reveals the nape of their neck , enhancing a delicate and vulnerable femininity , expressed in the refinement of poses and details, cleverly hair in a bun , the curve of a shadow undressed , the iridescent reflections of a shell , the marks on the skin of a burn summer …
Punctum of each image is a breath of wind that blows gently memories thoughts and feelings that have the rhythm of the verses of Nazim Hikmet “ it will sunset, my rose / and beyond the night / it will wait / I hope / the taste of a new blue . “
BIO- Brea Souders is an artist based in New York City.Her work has been exhibited in galleries and festivals internationally, including Daniel Cooney Fine Art, Abrons Arts Center and The Camera Club of New York, the Hyères International Festivalof Photography & Fashion, France, Camera16 Contemporary Art in Milan and the Singapore International Photography Festival. She has received a Darkroom Residency at the Camera Club of New York, a Jean and Louis Dreyfus Foundation fellowship at the Millay Colony of the Arts, and a Women in Photography/LTI-Lightside Kodak materials grant. Souders’ artwork has been featured in New York Magazine, Vice, Dear Dave, Real Simple, Conveyor and Creative Review, and she has photographed for the New York Times T Magazine, Marie Claire, Le Monde Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, WSJ Magazine and L’Officiel Art.
